Gummy Vites - The Ingredients

Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamins play a significant role in building immunity, and these include vitamins A, C, D, E, B6, B12 and folic acid. Together with the trace elements selenium, zinc, copper and iron they contribute to the body’s natural defences on three levels by supporting physical barriers (skin/mucosa), cellular immunity and antibody production.12a

Magnesium is another mineral which is essential in the body for many metabolic processes including muscle contraction, nerve transmission and maintenance of a healthy immune system.13a

Elderberry

Elderberry, is an extract from the ripe fruit of the elderberry (Sambucus nigra) that has shown to reduce the severity of cold symptoms and may help to reduce the time absent from work or school.10a,b

It is thought to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating effects and has even shown antiviral activity in laboratory testing.11a

Vitamin C

Vitamin C in particular, plays multiple roles in the immune system and the body. It is an antioxidant which boosts the immune system by preventing oxidative stress.12bAdministration of vitamin C results in improvement in several cellular components of the human immune response such as lymphocytes and phagocytes as well as cytokine production and synthesis of antibodies.12c

Vitamin C has also been shown to have a moderate benefit on the duration and severity of symptoms of the common cold.12d

Non–immune functions include contributing to fat and protein metabolism, normal collagen function, normal energy production, functioning of the nervous system, reduction in tiredness and fatigue and improved wound healing.14

Omega-3

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in cell membranes and in high concentrations in the brain where they play a very important role in brain development and function. The main dietary Omega 3-fatty acids are, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA has proven to have an anti-inflammatory effect, while DHA is critical for the development of the brain. Omega-3 is also essential for the overall maintenance of good health. 19, 20, 21

Omega-3 fatty acids cannot be produced by the human body and needs to be obtained from our food or from daily supplements. Sources of omega-3 are flaxseed, oils of walnuts, canola and soya, as well as fatty fish, such as sardines, anchovies or salmon 20, 21

It may help to use Omega-3 supplements with a fatty meal, as it can help the body to absorb the nutrients. 21
